Isabelle Windsor

Mrs. Isabelle Holmes Windsor, 93, of Mt. Airy, died peacefully Friday, November 23, 2012.  Isabelle was married to James I. Windsor of Mt. Airy for 32 years prior to his death in 1973. Born August 15, 1919, she was the daughter of George Pemberton Holmes and Theresa Alice Williams Holmes of Tannersville, Tazewell County, Virginia.   She was the youngest of twelve children, nine boys and three girls, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Just thirteen when her mother died, Isabelle learned to care for the house and managed the cooking, cleaning and laundry for her father and brothers until she moved to Mt. Airy to live with her brother and his family, and attend high school here.  She married Jim Windsor in 1941. During their lifetime, four of her brothers became Mt. Airy residents; Edward and Mamie Holmes, Fred and Janie Holmes, Henry and Ruth Holmes, and Starritt and Eunice Holmes, who became permanent residents and business owners in the town.
Isabelle was a homemaker and active volunteer in Mt. Airy. She joined the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary in 1952 and continued to serve for 60 years.  She was also a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.  After her children were grown, she worked as a cafeteria assistant in the Mt. Airy schools for several years, followed by employment with National Geographic and later worked as a dietary cook for Pleasant View Nursing Home until her retirement.  She was a caring neighbor, and she   enjoyed visiting and having fun with friends and fellow volunteers.
Isabelle is survived by two children, James Ronald Windsor and wife Nancy of Winfield, MD, and Judith Ann Albright and husband Granville of Mt. Airy.  She has three grandchildren;  Lisa McMillan and husband Dave of Baltimore, Lois Windsor-Buchanan and husband Rich of Westminster, and Victoria Taylor and husband Patrick of Gaithersburg; six great grandchildren: Mason and Mable Windsor-Buchanan of Westminster, and David, Elizabeth, Daniel and Joseph Mc Millan of Baltimore, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville, Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD, Tuesday, November 27, from 2:00 -5:00 p.m., where services will be held Wednesday, November 28, at 11:00 am with Chaplain  Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Interment Pine Grove Cemetery.
