Irwin Klareich

Mr. Irwin "Duke" Klareich, 89, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Citizens Care Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Edith E. Kaufman Klareich, his wife of 67 years.

Born on February 17, 1926 in New York City, he was the son of the late Lee and Ruth Schaefer Klareich. Duke was a loving husband and father and devoted eldest brother. He proudly served as a US Marine during WWII. He was the founder and operator of Duke's Smoke Shop in Elmont, NY, first discount tobacconist of fine cigars on LI, NY that he converted from a candy store. Duke enjoyed a game of checkers; but his real love was spending time with his family especially his granddaughters.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Stephanie Coakley of Ellicott City and Faith Klareich and husband Charles Sheeler of New Market; two granddaughters: Hannah Coakley of New York, NY and Jennie Sheeler of New Market; a sister, Sondra Gussin and husband Stanley of Howard Beach, NY and a brother, Shelly Klareich and wife Sandy of Hauppauge, NY. Mr. Klareich was preceded in death by two sisters: Mildred Rosen and Phyllis Sarfaty.
Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Mt. Airy and Stauffer Crematory, Frederick.
