Irene (Summers) Wilhide

Irene Ruth (Summers) Wilhide, 88, formerly of Keedysville, Maryland and most recently of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, July 28, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Hagerstown.

Born on August 9, 1923, in Johnsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Beulah (Hoffman) Summers. Her husband, Timothy E. Wilhide preceded her in death on October 30, 1994.

Irene was a 1941 graduate of Walkersville High School in Walkersville, Maryland.

She was a member of Mt. Vernon Reformed United Church of Christ in Keedysville.  Irene was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Olive Branch #34, both located in Keedysville.

Irene is survived by her son, Wayne D. Wilhide of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Carol Stride and her husband, Gabriel, Stacy and her husband, Joshua Shanholtz, and Timothy Wilhide, all of Hagerstown; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Stride and Paige and Destiny Shanholtz, all of Hagerstown.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Dennis I. Wilhide; her daughter-in-law, Betty K. Wilhide; and two sisters, Belva Stouffer and Helen Summers.

A funeral ceremony will be held at  1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012  at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
