Irene Palmer

September 3, 1906 — January 20, 2013

Mrs. Irene Klipp Palmer, 106, longtime Frederick resident, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Gordon F. Palmer, Sr., former vice president of Farmers and Mechanics Bank, who died on July 14, 1971.

She was born in Shookstown on September 3, 1906.

Irene was the oldest member of Bethel Lutheran Church having joined in 1925. She sang in the church choir and sewed paraments for the Altar. She was an organizer for the Bethel Busy Bees which started in 1936 and held offices of treasurer and vice president. This organization's project helped to support the church.

She was active at Mountaindale Union Sunday School where her husband was superintendent for 40 years and she was pianist and taught Sunday School classes.

Irene was a perfect homemaker, antique collector, seamstress and she loved to quilt and crochet.

Irene is the last of eight siblings born to the late John Henry (Harry) Klipp and Mary Catherine (Katie Schultz) Klipp.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by her daughter, Betty Irene Palmer Ratajczak; her son, Gordon Franklin Palmer, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Connie J. Palmer; grandchildren, Andrea Carol Ratajczak, Theresa Irene Ratajczak, and Lee Ann Palmer Redmond; and her great grandchildren, John Raymond Cameron, Jordan Raymond Cameron, Kaelee Ratajczak-Dickson, Nyla Ratajczak-Dickson, Julianne Palmer Redmond, and Kevin William Redmond.

She is fondly remembered by her many friends and relatives.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Stauffer Family Services, formerly Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market Street, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 24 from the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
