Irene Brown Kallaway, 91, of Frederick passed away at Sunrise of Frederick on Friday, May 23, 2014.
Irene was born July 19, 1922 in Dorsey, Maryland. She and her late husband, Harry, owned and operated Kallaway's Cleaners in Frederick. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Anna Brown who owned and operated Brown's on East Patrick Street in Frederick for many years.
Irene was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, DC with a degree in Accounting where she was a member of the KAPPA Delta Sigma Mu Sorority.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Crestwood Village, where she loved to play bridge and bingo. Irene was a benefactor to Frederick Memorial Hospital's Lasting Legacy Program. She also was a benefactor to the Disabled American Veterans National Chapter. Irene loved to travel and had visited over 30 countries.
She is survived by her brother-in-law and good friend, Richard DeLauter of Myersville; nephews, Harry and Anthony DeLauter and Raymond Brown; a niece, Dawna Keyser; and many great-nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick. Those attending should meet by 9:50 a.m. near the FSK Chapel at the cemetery.
