Inez Athey

Mrs. Inez Louise Athey, 87, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, December 31, 2012. She was the loving wife of Edward F. Athey for 67 years.
Born August 24, 1925 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Anna Kraft.
Early in her life she was a performer for the USO during WWII. After marriage, she operated her own dance studio in Montgomery County for many years and continued teaching dance after she moved to Frederick County. Later, she worked for the Army Map Service. Inez and Edward continued to reside in Frederick County for 51 years.
Inez loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She was a past president and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #168 in Thurmont.
She is survived by her husband Edward and four daughters, Juanita Fleagle and husband, Terry, of Fairfield, PA; Virginia Richards and husband, Ronnie, of Fairfield, PA; Donna Athey and husband, Robert Baughman, of Taneytown, MD; and Sheri Carbaugh and husband, James “Pete”, of Newport, PA; 10 grandchildren, Melanie Ramey, Michael Richards, A. Michele Box, Mark Fleagle, Jessica Seaman, Daniel Meixner, Timothy Athey, Jamie Carbaugh, Brianna Orris, Jesse Carbaugh; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Kraft of San Jose, CA, and extended family Julie and Buzz Mackley and their children.
She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Ginger Carol Wagerman and J. Christopher Meixner; four brothers, and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4 at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
