Ida Levy

On Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, Ida Levy, beloved wife of Dr. Kenneth Levy, beloved mother of Linda McDonough and husband Steve, and beloved grandmother of Justin McDonough and wife Amanda, and Morgan McDonough and Michele, entered the gates of Heaven. She is also survived by three sisters, Deloris Persaud and her husband Mahadeo, Chiquita Gartrell and Arreta McNay and numerous other nieces ,nephews, family members and friends.

Ida was born on January 20th, 1940 in Washington DC, the daughter of the late Virginia and Alonzo Gartrell. She spent her productive years as a model and actress, traveling to various countries and cities to pursue her career, but was always a wife, mother and grandmother first. Ida was a member of Screen Actors Guild and has served on the SAG Voting Committee over the last several years. Her voting input was instrumental in deciding the yearly recipients of the SAG Award. Over the span of her career she appeared in numerous magazines, including LIFE magazine, and numerous movies. She continued her passion for her career up until last year.

Ida always had a zest for life and her smile and contagious spirit were a blessing, and enjoyed by everyone that met her. She will truly be missed, but her memory and spirit will live on forever in our hearts. God loves you, and so do we.

A private memorial service celebration will be held at a later date. The family asks that a contribution be made, in her name, to The Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown Md, Critical Care Unit 4West for a Nursing Education Fund, in lieu of flowers. The family is planning to have a memorial bench with plaque honoring her in the beautiful outdoor garden at the Meritus Medical Center.
