Ian Matthew Willis, 13, of Urbana, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2009 in the Children's Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Born on May 21, 1995, he was the son of Michelle Cardenas) and Robert L. Willis of Urbana.

An eight grade honor student at Urbana Middle School, Ian loved to hang out with his friends, playing video games, and playing basketball. He recently took to the sport of fencing, where he showed a love for and natural ability. He cherished the time he spent with his pet dog Bailey, and his three cats; Nemo, Monk and Peaches.

Besides his parents, Ian will be loved and missed by his sister, Emily of Urbana; his maternal grandparents, John and Sine Marschall of Santa Fe, TX; his paternal grandparents, Sue and Alfred Willis of Hitchcock, TX; his paternal uncle and aunts, Andrew Willis and wife Kimberly of Friendswood TX, and Carrie Campbell of Santa Fe, TX; his maternal uncle and aunts, Hugo Cardenas, Jr. and wife Julie of Nashville, TN, and Pam Wyly of Marietta, GA; several cousins, great aunts and great uncles; and his Godparents Scott and Kristina Hensel of Jacksonville, FL.

Ian was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Hugo Cardenas, Sr, in 1973.


The family wishes that all friends join them immediately after the services at the Urbana Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 3602 Urbana Pike, Urbana, MD for a time of fellowship and reflection.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD.

Services: A memorial service celebrating Ian's life will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 23, 2008 at 11:00 AM under the direction of Rev. Blaine Young.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Ian's name may be offered to the: Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah, 84741-5000.
