Hugh A. McGovern, Sr.

Mr. Hugh A. McGovern, Sr. 71, died Friday, December 12, 2008 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walkersville, MD. He was the husband for 42 years to Olive V. Beadling McGovern.

Born in Palmyra, NJ on February 25, 1937 he was the son of the late Mary C. (Bradley) and Joseph H. McGovern, Sr. Hugh served in the United States Marine Corps during the Cuban Missel Crisis and into the Viet Nam War. He was a powder processor for Trans-Tech.

Hugh was a lifetime member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department. His hobbies included collecting milk bottles and he was an avid golfer.

Besides his wife survivors include his son Hugh A. McGovern, Jr. and wife Frances A. of Andrews Air Force Base; his two loving grandchildren, Keelin F. and Ewen J. McGovern; two sisters, Mary C. Paull of Sarasota, FL and Margaret M. McCay and husband Ronald of Osteen, FL; three brothers Joseph McGovern, Jr. of Osteen, FL, Msgn. James McGovern of Sarasota, FL and William J. McGovern and wife Donna of Cobleskill, NY; many nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered by his special friend Randy Judge Smith of Libertytown, and all his friends at Trans-Tech in Adamstown.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 19th, 2008, at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD with his brother Monsignor James McGovern officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Glade Cemetery.
