Mr. Hugh Clayton Clem, 88, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Copper Ridge Assisted Living. He was the beloved husband of Lillian Clem for 20 years.
Born January 6, 1924 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Clem.
Mr. Clem proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He worked as a grocery store manager for ACME. Hugh loved to travel. He also enjoyed dancing, ice skating, roller skating, bowling, playing soccer and horseshoes. Hugh was an avid sportsman. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending family reunions.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Sharon Argabright and husband Don of Ormond Beach, FL, Pamela Smithson and husband Robert, Patricia Jetty Regan of Mt. Airy and Nancy Giammatteo and husband Ralph of Cabin John, MD; grandchildren Andrew and Joshua Smithson; brother Vernon Clem of Port St. Lucie, FL and sisters Irene, Naomi, Shirley, Madeline and Loretta and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother Robert Clem.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 28 at 11 AM. Pastor Anke Deibler will officiate.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
