Mr. Howard W. Dilks, 67, of Urbana, MD., died peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Joyce Galecki Dilks his wife of 47 years.
Born July 28, 1942 in Erial, NJ, he was the son of the late John Lawrence Dilks and Hazel Cheeseman Dilks Donnell and husband William .
Mr. Dilks served his Country in the U. S. Navy Submarine Service from 1960 to 1968. He retired, in 2005, from NIST after 37 years where he was awarded a gold metal by the Department of Commerce for distinguished achievement in Federal Service. Howard was a tax preparer for more than 40 years. He was Past Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias in Gaithersburg. He also did volunteer work, organized and participated in charity golf tournaments and bingos. Pop was a devoted grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He frequently gave the gift of life by donating blood. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching birds from his kitchen window.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Colleen Dilks Strube and husband Wayne of Frederick, Doreen M. Dilks of Ocean Springs, MS, Jennifer L. Dilks of Frederick and Bradley H. Dilks of Charlotte, NC, three grandchildren Daniel, Spencer and Jason Strube, His brother Robert Dilks and sister Carolyn Oberparleiter and husband Reginald both of N. J. And a sister-in-law Clara Donnell. He will be remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers J. Lawrence Dilks and Robert Donnell and sisters Elizabeth Dilks and Pat Donnell.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Monday, February 8, from 2 - 4 and 7 -9 p.m. There will be a Knights of Pythias Service at 8:00 p.m.
Services:
Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m, with Deacon Skip Manley officiating.
