Howard “Pumpkin” Hagan, 80, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his home in Smithsburg, Maryland. Born on June 14, 1943, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Hagan Sr. and Margaret (Ebberts) Hagan.
Howard began farming at a young age and eventually was employed by HMF Paving, where he later retired. He spent his retirement selling fruit and vegetables at his produce stand. He was loved by his customers, whom he enjoyed talking with. Additionally, he loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and taking care of his animals. Howard cherished time spent with his family, especially playing dominos and card games.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Hagan, with whom he shared an especially close bond. He is survived by children Melissa Hagan, Margaret Hagan and partner Mark Boone, Melinda Benjamin and husband Jonathan, Phillip Mercer, Lisa Naylor and husband Quinton and stepchildren Melanie Goetz and husband Terry, Rhonda DeVore and husband Steve, and Jason Hagan. Howard will be remembered by his 33 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, brothers David, Henry, and Thomas Hagan, sister Sylvia Martin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son Howard “Duke” Hagan and siblings JoAnne Fogel, Charles Hagan Jr and Franklin Hagan.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, MD. A celebration of Howard’s life journey will take place at 1:00pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glade Cemetery in Walkersville, Maryland.
