Howard Dixon, Sr.

Mr. Howard L. Dixon, 81, of Thurmont, MD., passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Maria Schafer Dixon.
Born August 31, 1930 in Tunnelton, WV, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Lura Funk Dixon.
Mr. Dixon retired after 21 years serving his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW. He also retired after 22 yrs of service at Eastalco. Howard enjoyed hunting, gardening and country music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Howard Dixon, Jr. of Frederick, a brother Claud L. Dixon and wife Lilly of Colesville, WA, two sisters Dorothy Thomas of Oakland, MD and Betty Goff of Frederick, MD. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a son Clay Alton Dixon, brothers William L., Paul W., Coy E., and Roy N. Dixon, and sisters Aida P. Dixon, Lena Dixon, Edna M. Sigley, Mary V. Cole and Edith L. DeWitt.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD on Thursday, January 5, from 2 -4 and 6 – 8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at the Corinth Methodist Church, WV, Friday, January 6, at 1:00 pm
Interment Terra Alta Cemetery. Contributions may be expressed to the American Cancer Society 1393 Progress Way, Eldersburg, MD 21784.
