Mrs. Hilda Elizabeth Johnson, 91, of Frederick, MD, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025 at her home with family in Frederick, MD.
Born on November 12, 1933, in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Darby and Bessie Luvenia (Bowens) Brown. She was married to the late Joseph Henry Johnson.
Hilda retired from Montgomery County Public Schools (30 years) in Rockville, MD. After retiring, for a short period she became a caregiver for two ladies who became her good friends. Hilda had a passion for cooking (oh her cooking), baking puzzling and crocheting. She also loved sports especially football, baseball, tennis and who would have thought, hockey.
Hilda was a member of the former Warren United Methodist Church in Mount Airy, MD before moving her membership to Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved her church and church family very much and was saddened that she was not able to return, it was her most sought-after goal. But she was devoted to watching services on live stream.
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Barbara Marshall and son, Larry Proctor, both of Frederick, MD. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two dear aunts; Helen (Snookie) Carr of Catonsville and MayBelle Jones of York, PA.; she was a devoted aunt, friend and confidant to several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Hilda was the last surviving sibling of twelve. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darby and Bessie Brown; husband, Joseph H. Johnson, siblings: Norine Hurd, Robert Hurd, Ernest Hurd, Darby Brown, Jr., Adeline Brown, David Brown, Earl Brown, Merhl Brown, James Brown, Catherine Borum and Dorothy Brown.
Hilda loved and enjoyed most being with her family and they loved her back. Her home was the family gathering place for holidays and visits.
The family thank and praise God for the many family members, friends and church family who have shared in our moment of grief. The calls, cards, prayers, meals were so much appreciated. We also would like to thank Frederick Health and Frederick Hospice for the care and support provided to our Mom. A special thanks to Sisters Sandra Warfield, Eva Ellis, and Melissa Dorsey for their special care and support.
A visitation on Saturday, April 19, 2025, will be held at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church from 11 am to 12 pm. A service will follow at 12, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick Maryland.
