Hilda Herrell Craddock

Hilda Jane Herrell Craddock ("Kate"), age 79 of New Market, MD died Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville, MD. She leaves behind her beloved daughters Rixie Scott and Michellee Edwards, son James Craddock, son-in-law Clay Edwards, five grandchildren: Justin and Lauren Scott, Lucas and Lindsey Edwards, and Aimee Craddock, her sister Patricia O'Meara, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel Mae Abbott and three brothers William Albert Herrell, Charles Edward Herrell, and George Lyles Herrell.

Kate was born in Washington, DC in 1938 and lived most of her life in Olney, MD, where she raised her family. She worked as a Personnel Assistant for the federal government, from which she retired in 1999 and moved to New Market, MD. Kate enjoyed spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews. She loved relaxing at the beach, singing, dancing, growing vegetables in her garden, and cooking for family and friends. In her later years, she spent her leisure time doing word search puzzles and reading Nicholas Sparks novels. She was a lifelong sports fan sports and enjoyed watching Washington Redskins, Baltimore Colts, Maryland Terrapins, PGA, and NBA games on TV. She had a generous spirit, an infectious laugh, and a smile that could light up a room.

Kate’s daughters will be planning a private gathering for family members and friends to celebrate her life.
