Hettie Barker

Mrs. Hettie M. Barker, 85 of Frederick, MD., died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Howard K. Barker.

Born February 13, 1923, in Batesville, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Claiborne G. and Marie Rachel McGee.

She was a member of Toms Creek United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement in 1977, Mrs. Barker was a Tariff Assistant with the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture. She started writing for the Free Press around 1981 and was also published in several Christian magazines.

Mrs. Barker is survived by her son, Lee E. Cannon and his wife Jane of Frederick and was preceded in death by her brother Eugene C. McGee, Dec. 10, 1996.

Visitation: There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Services: Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 26, from the Stauffer Funeral Home Chapel, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Her friend and pastor, the Rev. James H. Farmer along with Pastor John Sasser and Rev. Judy Kelly will officiate.
A private interment will be held in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
