Herman Isaac Williams

Herman Isaac Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 31, 1950, and passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was affectionately known as “Zick”, “H.I.”, or “Little Herman” to family and friends. Herman resided in Brunswick, MD since 1978. He was captivated by his lovely wife Faye Holland Williams and was married August 25th,1979 at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Brunswick.

In his senior year of high school, Herman worked as an intern at F.S. Smithers &. Company as a market analyst on Wall Street. After four years on Wall Street, he moved to Washington D.C. and accepted employment with DC Metro where he worked the next 36 years of exemplary service before retiring.  

Herman was here to serve. In 1980, he joined Fredericktonian Lodge No. 12 in Frederick, MD. Brother Williams served as the Worshipful Master from 1989-1990. In 1982, he joined Queen Esther Chapter No. 2, the Sister Chapter to Fredericktonian Lodge No. 12. In 1984 Brother Williams joined Western Maryland Consistory No. 270, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry, USC-DC, PHA as a 32 Degree Mason.  Brother Williams also served as Worthy Patron of Queen Esther Chapter in 1987 and continued to serve as either Associate Patron or Worthy Patron until 2007. In 2001, Brother Williams was appointed as District Deputy Grand Patron. A position he held until 2009. After which, he was elected as Grand Associate Patron. In 2011, an historic event took place in Myra Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Maryland. Brother Williams and his wife Sister Williams were elevated to Grand Worthy Patron and Grand Worthy Matron. The first husband and wife team in the State of Maryland.  In 2015, Brother Williams was elevated to a 33 Degree Mason with Western Maryland Consistory No. 270 in Frederick, Maryland. He was elevated to a 33 Degree in 2015 and a Sovereign Grand Inspector General in 2022.

Herman always wanted to join the Service, so in 1982 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri as a Chem Ops instructor. After 23 years of combined reservist and active-duty time, he retired with honors with the rank of Sergeant First Class.   

Herman had many activities in which he was an active member.  He served as Treasurer and Trustee of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, treasurer of the Maryland Road Knights Classic Car club of Frederick, Maryland, and was a member of Earth, Wheels, and Fire motorcycle club of Frederick, Maryland. He was also an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #684 as well as the American Legion Post #11 and the Orioles Nest #331, all of Frederick, Maryland. Locally, Herman was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1136 in Brunswick, Maryland. 

Herman was preceded in death by his father, Herman Claude Williams. He is survived by his mother, Bertha Beatrice Powell Williams; wife Faye H. Williams; sister Debra D. Goodlett; Brother-in-law Kedrick Goodlett; Sons: Dr. Eric Q. Williams and Capt. Terrence I. Williams; Daughters-in-law: Juhi R. Williams and Shaneeca L. Williams; grandchildren: Eboné, Amber, Arjun, Aaryan, Terryn; and great-grandchildren: Aniyla, Peyton, Aaliyah, and Reign. In addition, Herman leaves behind numerous cherished sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and great friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 25 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, MD 21716. 

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26 from Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 26 W J Street, Brunswick.
