Our beloved “Pap”, Herman E. Jones, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, May 11 at his son James’ home, where he had resided the last eight years. Pap married Dorothy M. (Kretzer) September 9, 1949, who preceded him in death August 31, 2004. Now he and Mammaw are together again.
Pap was born at home on Moser Road at Zittlestown, Maryland on June 14, 1928 to the late Luther M. and Mary E. (Long) Jones.
He lived most of his life on Amos Reeder Road where he worked with his parents, his brother Ralph L. Jones, now deceased, and his sister, Catherine V. Sigler, now deceased. He attended Zittlestown School, Park Hall School, Rohrersville School and Boonsboro School. He was a member of Gapland Christian Church where he also served as a Board of Director.
He not only worked on his family's farm he also worked for neighboring farmers. Once farming declined, he then worked for Bester and Long Construction Company. He retired in 1993 from the Washington County Board of Education as a custodian at Boonsboro Elementary School. Gardening was in Pap’s blood and he spent many hours on his John Deere tractor which was his pride and joy. We imagine he now has a gold-plated John Deere tractor in heaven. He didn’t have other hobbies but he did enjoy watching Major League Baseball, especially the New York Yankees. Pap is now waiting for his remaining family to join him in Heaven someday. Those he left behind are sons, James E. Jones, Sr. and wife, Carolyn (Butts), Terry L. Jones and wife, Tina (Lohman); grandchildren, Rebecca E. Glidden and husband, Marty, James E. Jones, Jr. and wife, Karla (Cubias); great-grandchildren, Travis E. Nalley, Amber P. Nalley, Colby S. Glidden, Samantha Cubias, Eric J. Cubias, Olivia A. Jones and Jasmine A. Jones; his great-great-grandsons, Brantley E. Nalley and Camden J. Nalley and their mother, Samantha Duble.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro with Revs. James Mueller and James Jones officiating. Burial will be held at Boonsboro Cemetery.
