Herman Augustus Hurd was born to Adeline and Hubert Hurd in Savlamar, Jamaica
August 9th, 1922. He was the second of five children, where he grew up and received his education in Kingston, Jamaica. Later, he traveled to England as a young man and made his living in cabinet making and iron and steel mold and core making. After living a number of years in England, he traveled to the United States and became employed by the Frederick Iron and Steel Company.
Soon thereafter, he met and married Anna Catherine Orem and from their union they had three children: Harley Hurd, Cynthia Hurd and Larry Orem.
Herman was very talented with his hands, all types of woodworking and furniture re-finishing were skills he was very good at and he established a small business based upon them. Herman always enjoyed sharing with his family the work and life experiences he gained from his travels abroad.
On Monday, May14th 2012, he was called from his earthly home to be at eternal rest with
the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his Wife: Anna C. Orem, Sister: Beryl Orem, Daughters:
Cynthia V. Hurd, Joy Hurd, Petulia Hurd, Delores Hurd and Sons: Harley Hurd, Roy Hurd and
Larry Orem, Brother-in law: Harry Orem, in addition to many niece’s, nephew’s, grand children and great grand-children.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md from 10 am. to 11 am. Homegoing Service at 11:00 am. Interment, Fairview Cemetery.
