Herbert "Herb" C. Darling, 92, of Keedysville, Maryland and formerly of Sidney, New York, passed from this life on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Martinsburg Veteran's Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Born on November 10, 1919, in Binghamton, New York, he was the son of the late Orson Lester and Sara Idell (Smith) Darling.

Mr. Darling was a United States Army veteran having provided service during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge under General George S. Patton.

He retired after 40 years of employment with Bendix Aviation.

Mr. Darling was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Sidney, and most recently was attending the United Christian Fellowship in Keedysville.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro, Maryland, and also had served as a volunteer at the Martinsburg Veteran's Hospital for five years.

Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Elsie E. (Cicio) Darling; his two daughters, Juanita D. Deering of Keedysville, and Eloise E. Jones and her husband Greg of Laurel, Maryland; two sisters, Dorothy Kinne of Greene, New York, and Jessie Bishop of Port Crane, New York; four grandchildren, Erik Leo Tilley, Kimberly Deering Martin, Christopher Wayne Deering and Nicole Deering Stover.  He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald Wayne Deering; two sisters, Marilyn Barsham and Beverly Dillingham; and two brothers, Joseph and Lester Darling.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  His nephew, Rev. Richard Cicio will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.  Military honors will be rendered by the Boonsboro American Legion Post #10.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
