Herbert LeRoy Strawsburg Jr., 89, of Jefferson, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD.

Born on December 8, 1933, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Herbert LeRoy Strawsburg, Sr. and Margaret Mae Strawsburg (Orndorff).

He graduated from Frederick High School and the University of Maryland receiving a Bachelors Degree in Banking with a Minor in Accounting

He served as Vice President of Farmers and Mechanics National Bank until 1973, then opened Brunswick Hardware and Sporting Goods operating it until his retirement in 2019 at the age of 85.

He was a former member and past president of the Frederick Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Terrapin Club, Frederick Kiwanis, Brunswick Bassmasters, Life Member of the Independent Hose Co. and in his later years, the Jefferson Ruritan Club. He was a long time member of All Saints Episcopal Church whereas a young boy, he served as an acolyte.

LeRoy was a long time and highly respected business owner in downtown Brunswick. He was an avid fisherman all his life who loved fishing from his boat or canoe on the Potomac, Monocacy, Shenandoah, and Susquehanna rivers with his family and friends. He shared his love and respect of the outdoors with his daughters and grandchildren.
In 2018, he was honored with the Distinguished Citizen Award in Brunswick.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Strawsburg, who he would have been married to for 67 years on June 10.
Daughters, Abbie Ricketts (Rick), Pamela McCarthy (Kevin Sr.), Denise Zigler (Mike), and Margie Janner. 
Grandchildren, Jason Ricketts, Amber Lowery, Tony, and Jacob Strawsburg, Sara Orfanakis, Elly, Kevin Jr., and Thomas McCarthy, and Morgan Zigler. Great-grandchildren, Eva Riffle, Aubrey Notnagle, and Graydon McCarthy, Drew Ricketts, Justin Ricketts, Jared Ricketts, Tyler Lowery, Logan Lowery, Maya Lowery, MaKayla Mason, and Emilie Mason.


He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law Betty Easterday and brother-in-law Jack Koontz.

He was predeceased by his grandson Elias Janner in 2002 and his former son-in-law Aaron Janner in 2022.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1100 North Maple Avenue in Brunswick, MD.

A celebration of LeRoy's life journey will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 am. Rev. Roland England will officiate. Burial will follow services at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick, MD.

A fellowship luncheon will follow at the Jefferson Ruritan Building 4603 Lander Rd. Jefferson, MD 21755

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
