Herbert Bruce Edkins, Jr.

Herbert Bruce Edkins Jr, 84, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. 

Bruce was born on November 4, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA; he was the son of the late Herbert Bruce Edkins Sr and Margaret Ellen (Williams) Edkins.  

He was the loving husband of the late Helen "Chickie" Edkins.

He obtained his BS and MBA from the University of Maryland and loved being a Terrapin.  Bruce served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years between his time in active and reserve duties and earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  Bruce worked as a commercial real estate appraiser for several companies in Florida and Maryland. 

He is survived by his children, Laura Parsons and Michael Edkins.  He greatly loved his grandchildren: Levi, Malia, Hudson, Josie and Nevada.  He will be remembered fondly by his brother, Steve Edkins, and his many nieces and nephews.  

He is predeceased by his sisters, Virginia Lee Mashino and Margaret Ellen Edkins and the mother of his children, Rhea Diamond.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 East Ridgeville in Mount Airy MD, followed by a celebration of Bruce’s life at 3:00 pm.  

Military Honors will be rendered at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA., date and time to be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
