Mr. Henry Bruce Cranford, Sr, 90, of Frederick, died on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Eva Mary Coury Cranford.

Born on September 29, 1919 in Carthage, Texas he was the son of the late Henry W. and Annie L. Smith Cranford.
Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1938, retiring from active and reserve services in 1969 as Master Chief, HMCS and retiring again in 1985 from Civil Services. He moved to Frederick in 1994 and then retired from private consulting service in 1995.

During his time in the service he served on the following ships of war; USS Charles Lawrence, DE-53/ADP-37 (May 1943-Feb. 1946), USS LSM-297 (Jan. 1949-Mar. 1949), USS Okalosa, APA-219 (Mar. 1949-Apr. 1949), USS Ronquil, SS-396 (May 1953-Aug. 1954), USS Tiru, SS-416 (Aug. 1954-Feb. 1955) and USS Begura, SS 331 (Feb. 1955-Dec. 1955).

Henry was a member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Walkersville, MD. He was also the Reunion Coordinator of the USS Charles Lawrence, DE-53/ADP-37 for twenty years. He was a member of DESA of Maryland, a life member of AMVETS, Post #9, Middletown, MD, SUBVETS Tri-State Base, U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII, American Legion, Francis Scott Key Post #11, Frederick, MD and VFW Post #3285 Frederick, Md. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 182, Rockville, MD and AARP Chapter 636, Frederick, MD.

Surviving are his children: H. Bruce Cranford, Jr. and wife Mary of Potomac, Steve Cranford and wife Be of Frederick, Kathy Kershner-Garofalo and husband John of Canberra Australia, Beverly Janik and husband Dan of Auroa CO and Mary McCafferty and husband Randy of San Antonio, TX; sister Pearl Gibson of Seattle, WA; nine grandchildren: Greg Janik, Samantha Janik, Charlie Kershner, Coury Kershner-Burton, Amanda Kershner, Sarah McCafferty, Isabella McCafferty, Mary Ellen McCafferty and Rachel McCafferty.

He is preceded in death by: Jake Cranford, Marie Nagel, James Cranford, Joan Mesner, Billy Cranford, Charles Ray Cranford and Douglas Cranford..

Friends may call from 3-6 PM on Sunday, October 3, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 4 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Rd. Walkersville, MD. The Rev.Monsignor Richard Murphy will be the celebrant. Interment will be private.
