Helen Charlene Runkles

Helen Charlene (Khuen) Runkles, 77, of Middletown, MD, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on September 28, 2018.  She was the loving wife of Roger Ray Runkles to whom she was married for almost 50 years.
Born June 1, 1941 in Takoma Park, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank Charles and Marguerite Odrionne (Tucker) Khuen.  She was raised in Rockville and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1959.
In addition to her husband, surviving are her children: James Crampton II, of Middletown, Robert Crampton and wife, Michelle, of Arizona, Dana Athey and husband, Gary, of Frederick, Scott Runkles and wife, Sharon, of Boonsboro, Brian Runkles and wife, Cristina, of Frederick; grandchildren, Taylor Kent (Amber), Kristin Staub (Trey), Ryan Kent (Alissa), William Hahn, Brittany James, Madeline Runkles, Evan Runkles, Bryson Runkles, Ridgely Runkles; seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings: Robert “Bobby” Khuen (Cele), Carl Khuen (Claire), Ruth Caballero (Edward), and Terry Khuen; and many nieces and nephews.
Her life was marked with joy spending time with her family and friends.  She had a fond love of gardening and enjoyed spending time taking in the scenery at her home in Middletown.
Charlene was a 17-year cancer survivor and was still in remission at the time of her passing.
She was a devoted member of Frederick Baptist Church for 41 years and served as the nursery director for 25 years.  Most importantly, Charlene accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1978 and is now reaping the eternal benefits of that decision.  She was excited about the new building program at the church and looked forward to its completion.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, but we are all comforted knowing that she is in her eternal heavenly home.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Frederick Baptist Church. Pastor John Y. Seay will be officiating the ceremony. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlene’s life.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name and sent to Frederick Baptist Church, 5305 Mt. Zion Rd, Frederick, MD 21703, to support the new building program.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and many doctors at Frederick Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care.
