Helen Cousins Thompson died peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2017, in the health care center at Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown.
A native of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Thompson was born on June 17, 1920, and was the daughter of the late James Blaine Cousins and Isabelle Thompson Cousins. She was the widow of John R. ("Jack") Thompson, who died in 2003.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, in 1942, with a bachelor's degree in public school music, and taught in the Sharon school system in the 1940s. She later worked at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
She moved to Beltsville, Maryland, in 1956 and in the 1960s worked as a secretary at High Point High School in Beltsville. She was later employed in the Office of Student Aid at the University of Maryland in College Park and retired in 1978 as a Program Director.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Frederick in 1992 and to Adamstown in 2001. Mrs. Thompson was an active member of Frederick Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge on a regular basis.
She is survived by her son, Richard Thompson, and his wife Linda of Monrovia; and also by granddaughter Melanie Brevis and her husband Zach, of Lafayette, Louisiana; granddaughter Crystal Thompson, of Washington, DC; grandson Derrick Thompson and his wife Carrie, of Stephens City, Virginia; and granddaughter Valerie Roebuck and her husband Brandon, of New Windsor, Maryland. In addition, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Grace, Faith, and Jeremiah Thompson; Josiah and Hadley Brevis; and Kirby and Eamon Roebuck.
Mrs. Thompson's family wishes to thank the staff of the health care center at Buckingham's Choice for the care that they gave to her during the last several weeks of her life.
A memorial service for Mrs. Thompson will be held on Saturday, February 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 West Second St., Frederick, 21701. A reception at the church will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Frederick Presbyterian Church, designated for the music program.
