Helen Stup

Helen Ione (Myers) Stup, 100, passed away peacefully at Homewood at Crumland Farms on July 18, 2015.
Born November 5, 1914, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Blanche R. (Shuffler) Myers and George C. Myers. Mrs. Stup resided at Homewood at Crumland Farms during her final years.
Mrs. Stup was a graduate of Girls High School in Frederick. She started working at Ruth Phebus’ Beauty Shop on East Patrick in 1935. In 1946 she purchased the business and changed the name to Helen’s Beauty Shop in 1949 when it was re-located to North Market Street. After her retirement in 1986, she remained the owner of Helen’s, which it had come to be known, at 217 North Market Street until closing in 1988. She was proud that she received an award from the City of Frederick for remodeling and restoration of the facade of the building. She was a long time member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church until her later years when she became affiliated with Saint Katherine Drexell Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of Francis Scott Key Unit 11, American Legion Auxiliary and Elks Lodge 684 Auxiliary. She was a devoted Mother, Aunt and Gannie to her family and extended Family, especially her grandchildren and extended grandchildren, and enjoyed being surrounded by them. Known as Helen, Gracie, Mom, Gannie and Mrs. Stup to several generations, she touched very many lives in a positive way and helped them mature into responsible citizens of the community.
Mrs. Stup is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Richard Stup of Tucson Arizona; son, Richard Lee (Rick) Stup and wife Clasina, and her daughter, Susan Diane Stup; her three grandchildren Rikki Lynn (Stup) Fultz and husband Dan, Geoffrey Lee Stup and wife Jessica, and Jennifer R. Stup; and four great grandchildren: Mikaela Earp, Hailey Paige Sheffler, Abel Madyx Fultz and Gage Douglas Stup.
Besides her children she continued to raise as her own, nephew, Tedd L. Godbee, and two nieces, Chica Godbee Golibart and Patti Godbee Bauer after her sister, Celeste Myers Godbee, and her husband, John Godbee, passed away. She is survived by her extended family, Tedd L. Godbee's widow Gloria, and Chica Godbee Golibart; extended grandchildren: a very special great niece Helen G. Golibart and husband Chris Clark, M. J. Golibart and wife Suzanne, and Mark R. Golibart and wife Samantha, a very special great niece Denise T. Tatro and husband Bob Smariga, and great nephew Matt Tracey, Dawn G. Hull and husband Tim, and Kim G. Claggett and husband Tom, and extended great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stup was preceded in death in addition to her parents and sister by her niece Patti Godbee Bauer and nephew Tedd Lee Godbee.
At her request there will be no visitation with family or viewing, and interment will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 12 Noon. Honorary Pall Bearers are William J. Lach, Robert M. Marrone, Dr. James R. McCellan, George T. Horman Esq., Terre R. Rhoderick, and W. Jerome Offutt Esq.
