Helen Seymour

Helen Thomas Seymour, 93, previously of Frederick passed away May 16, 2014, at Glade Valley Center, Walkersville, MD.  Born December 20, 1920, near Charleston, WV, she was the oldest daughter of the late Marvin “Pete” and Ollie Mae (Stover) Thomas.  She was predeceased by her husband Donald Seymour, Sr., in 1987 whom she married on July 22, 1944.
Helen grew up in West Virginia and during World War II she performed her patriotic duty by working in war plants in Maryland and Connecticut before marrying and becoming a Navy wife for 14 years.  After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, the family moved to Frederick in 1961 where she was a homemaker and raised her four children.  Starting in the 1970’s and until 1987, she volunteered at Fort Detrick, primarily at the Thrift Shop where she received numerous accommodations from the Post Commander for her work.
Surviving are three children, Donald and wife Alesa, Richard, and Cheryl Seymour all of Frederick.  She was predeceased by one son Roger Seymour.  Helen is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kimberly Welsh (Chris) of Burtonsville, MD; Gregory Seymour (Shannon) of Martinsburg, WV; Jennifer Hergott (Matthew) of Milton, Florida; Robert Seymour (Diana) of Walkersville;  Mark Seymour (Laurie) of Apex, NC; Jason Seymour of British Columbia; and Ryan Seymour of Frederick.  In addition she is survived by 15 great-grandchildren Brian, Adyson, Seth, Caleb, Tanner, Myiah, Madison, Chloe, and Jackson Seymour; Amanda and Tyler Welsh; and Jaleesa, Jaron, Colton, and Logan Hergott; along with two great-great grandsons.
Helen is also survived by two sisters Pat Price and Linda O’Brien (Ronald) of West Virginia.  She was predeceased by brothers Bill, Marvin, Darrell, John, Curtis, and Fred Thomas and by sisters Ruby Farmer, Betty Rogers, Mary Rogers, Teresa  Anderson, and Brenda Thomas.  In addition she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Glade Valley Center, Dr. Eugene Casagrande, Dr. Allen Gilson, and Dr. Michael Levangie for the excellent care provided to Helen.
The family will receive visitors at the Stauffer Funeral Home at 1621 Opossumtown Pike from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on May 22, 2014.  The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Tim May at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014.  Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
