Helen Sanford

Loved by her family, Helen Jean Sanford born December 12, 1933 in Atlantic City, New Jersey passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at the age of 83 at Montgomery Hospice Casey House in Rockville, Maryland.

Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frederick E. Sanford; her daughter Penny L. Parsons and husband David; her daughter Debra S. Grimes and husband Jesse; her grandchildren Robert E. S. Parsons, Jillian M. (Parsons) Roelkey and husband Mark, Jacob A. Grimes and Joshua W. Grimes.

She is also survived by her sister Alice Rovegno and twin sister Dorothy Ochoa.

Preceded by Helen’s father George A. Scherer, her mother Helen Glenn Smith and sister Ruth Careri.

Attended Brigantine Elementary, NJ; Atlantic City Junior High, NJ; Atlantic City High School, NJ; Plainfield Academy, NJ; Fletcher, Nursing school, RN, Ashville, NC; Washington Adventist University, formerly in her day, Columbia Union College, BS degree, Takoma Park, MD; University of Maryland, Master’s in Community and Public Health, UMB School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD.

Employment: As an RN, worked with Dr. Serrao in Takoma Park, Maryland; Retired from Montgomery County Government Health Department as a Public Health Nurse and Nursing Administrator for 23 years.

Visitation will be held at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702, Friday May 5, 2017 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Visitation continues Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. followed by Funeral Services at 3:00 p.m. at the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, 6437 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, MD 21703; burial gathering follows at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S Market Street Frederick, MD 21701

Helen’s hobbies include bowling, crochet, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, video games, sending greeting cards and correspondence by mail of Discover Bible School lessons. Helen loved the Lord, her family and caring for others.
