Mrs. Helen Virginia Hall Miller-Scott, 78, of Frederick, Maryland passed away on Sunday, June 15 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born November 23, 1935 she was the daughter of the late George E. and Nellie R. Hall.
Mrs. Miller-Scott was a lifelong resident of Frederick; a graduate of Frederick High School, 1953; and Hood College Graduate, B.S. 1957. Helen spent her entire 42 year professional career as a microbiologist at Ft. Detrick, MD. During her civil service (Medical Branch, Department of Army), Helen received several commendations and awards; among these, Civilian Employee of the year. She retired in 1997, as an Assistant Administration Chief of Records Section, and Human Use Coordinator.
Mrs. Miller-Scott was predeceased by her first husband Saul (Sam) Miller, father of their four children. Helen is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dwight Scott, and her children, Mark (Joey) Miller and his wife Myra (Tammy), Mike Miller and his wife Kim, Regina (Genie) and her husband Fred Costlow, and Matt Miller and his wife Sandy; her beloved grandchildren Nick Miller, Lindsay Miller, Trevor Miller, Rachel (Ray) Costlow, Jenna Miller, and Sydney Miller.
Helen also leaves four step-children, Susan Scott, John Scott and his wife Stephanie, Jean Brookman and her husband Mike, and Jim Scott and his wife Kim; her step grandchildren Evan and Sam Brookman and Kyle Scott. She is further survived by her brother, George E. Hall, Jr.; her brother and sister-in-laws Ira and Judy Breiterman, Shirley Miller and Sylvia Lukemire. She will also be remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen’s love of family, animals and wildlife was well known. She will be missed by her cats as well as a myriad of wild birds and creatures.
The family would like to thank all those involved with providing outstanding care in the last year. In particular, Dr. Mark Goldstein, M.D. and the entire staff at FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center and Frederick Memorial Hospital, 2C wing, as well as the staff at Right at Home Senior Home Care, and the caring staff at FMH.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Wednesday, June 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
