Helen Illig

August 12, 1932 — December 20, 2018

Helen Claire Illig, 86, of New Market, died December 20, 2018 at Kline Hospice House.  She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Illig.  Born on August 12, 1932, in Lilly, PA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Dougherty and Genevieve (Hagan ) Dougherty.

She is survived by sons: Patrick (Sandy) Illig and Douglas Illig; daughters: Colleen (William) Loomis and Mary Beth (James) Mihm and ten grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings: Cletus (Ruth), Janet, John (Marie), Francis (Jeannette), Kathleen (Herb), Patricia (Bill). Helen was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew; a granddaughter, Kathleen; a daughter-in-law Jeannine as well as a brother-in-law Melvin.

Mrs. Illig was a proud stay at home mother to her four children.  Subsequently, she began her career in the Medical Library at Health and Human Services in Rockville for nearly 20 years.  She was a member of St. Jude's Parish (Rockville), where she was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady.  Helen was also an active member of the Ladies Order of Ancient Hibernians in Montgomery County.

Helen was an avid reader, and loved to spend time with her family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville.  A Memorial Mass will be held immediately following visiting hours at 11:00 AM at the church, Father Michael Jendrek will officiate.  Mrs. Illig and her late husband Raymond will be interred together at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
