Helen Jane (Ridenour) Gibney, 93, formerly of Hagerstown, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village in Boonsboro.
Born on March 11, 1919, in Beaver Creek, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Silas and Elizabeth Magdaline (Shaull) Ridenour. Her husband of 48 years, Lloyd W. Gibney, preceded her in death on February 17, 1990.
Helen was a graduate from Boonsboro High School. She retired from the Montgomery Ward Catalogue Department after 27 years.
She was a member of the Ladies of the Elks Lodge #378 in Hagerstown and the Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post #212 Ladies Auxillary. She was also a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Hagerstown and St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the care and compassion of the staff at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Carolyn L. Yeakle and husband A.G. of North Potomac, Maryland, and H. Darlene Chapman of Sharpsburg, Maryland; and two sons, Lloyd W. Gibney, Jr. of Funkstown, Maryland, and Elmer S. Gibney and wife Carol of Hagerstown. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Joseph A. Gibney; two brothers, Joseph L. Ridenour and Andrew F. Ridenour; and her companion Lester "Gus" Moreland on March 27, 2012.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the funeral home.
