Helen Loretta Avey Nelson Gay, 84, of Sharpsburg, Md., died Friday, September 19, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Sharpsburg.
Born January 25, 1924 in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leroy W. and Cora M. Kruger Avey.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Nelson, in 1981 and her second husband, Milton E. Gay, in 2002.
She was formerly employed by Victor Hosiery in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Dargan Mennonite Church and attended Mt. Briar Church of God.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris Bowers of Samples Manor, MD, and Sandy Gossard of Sharpsburg; two sons, Robert Nelson of Berkeley Springs, WV, and John Nelson of Sharpsburg; two sisters, Jean Whetzel of Breathedsville, MD, and Hilda Davis of Westminster, MD; and one brother, Paul Avey of Westminster.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jim Nelson; and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro with graveside services immediately following at Mt. Zion Cemetery at San Mar. The Rev. Roger I. Martin will officiate.
