Helen Adeline Deluca passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in Thurmont, MD
the age of 97.
It is with both great sadness and great joy that her family gives her into God's hands. She will be missed by her daughter Carol and husband Tom Council, her son-in-law Lew Hamlett, granddaughter Angela Cotie, her husband Chad and children Joey, Kenny, Zach and Kayla, great-great granddaughter Lilly, and grandson Andrew Hamlett, his wife, Laurie and children Aiden and Rowan.
We are joyful that Helen is now with her husband George and daughter Nancy both of whom she lost in 2019.
Helen was born in Crabtree, Pennsylvania but has resided in Thurmont over fifty years.
She was an advocate for Eyler Valley Citizens organization and wrote a column in THE BANNER for her beloved Thurmont Senior Center. She was fundamental in creating the atmosphere and independence of the Center and proud of its growth. Her efforts were recognized when she was placed in the Maryland Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.
Helen and George were very active at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church. She was so very proud when they were awarded the Archdiocesan Medal of Honor for Service.
Not one to sit idle, Helen enjoyed traveling with George and they shared her crafts and other projects for 72 and "1/2" years. And could she cook?!! She enjoyed working in her gardens and reading but her greatest joy was family.
She is survived by her immediate family but was "Mom" to so many of her nieces and nephews. Their attachment to her held a special place in her heart. Her memory will live in all of us
and bring us comfort.
Her funeral service will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 11:00AM on
May 7th, with visitation at 10:00.
Internment will be in Wanamie, Pennsylvania where she will rest in peace
with George.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Thurmont Senior Center, 806 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD 21788.
