Hazel Yvonne Thompson, a beloved member of the Frederick community, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2023. She was born on April 18, 1941, in Frederick, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late William Edward and Alice Virginia Blackston. Hazel was a vibrant soul who brought joy to all those around her. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family and friends.
She dedicated her time and energy to raising her grandson, Chase Patterson as well as working at the Frederick Canning Company. Additionally, she served as a Crossing Guard, ensuring the safety of countless children as they made their way to school. Yvonne's commitment to her work was commendable, and she will be remembered for her dedication and reliability.
Outside of work, Yvonne embraced life with exuberance and flair. She was known as "the life of a party" and lit up every room she entered with her infectious laughter and charming personality. Hazel loved dancing, indulging in her favorite soap operas, staying up-to-date with the latest gossip, and dressing up. In fact, it was her impeccable sense of style that earned her the nickname "Diva." Her zest for life was truly inspiring.
Yvonne enjoyed her involvement in Quinn Chapel AME Church. She cherished the spiritual connections she made there and found solace in her faith throughout her life's journey.
On Sunday morning, Hazel Yvonne Thompson peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord. Her passing reminds us that life is precious and should be cherished. Though our hearts ache with grief, we find comfort knowing that Hazel is now at peace.
Yvonne will be remembered fondly by her surviving children, Allison "Ronnie" Blackston, Philip Thompson, Kean Thompson, Ryan "Jimmy" Thompson (Shannon). Philip "Pappy" Thomas and Kevin Franklin also mourn her loss as stepsons.
Yvonne was blessed with precious grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Timisha and Ean Thomas, Cornelius and Shawn Harris, Chase Patterson, Ryan Bowins, Brianna Thomas, Cordell and Jaziah Thompson held a special place in her heart. Additionally, Hazel leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Yvonne leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Philip Thompson. Her children, Chasity, Larry, and Barry Thompson, were blessed to have her as their devoted mother. Her daughter-in-law, Lena Thompson; sisters, Myra McCain, Charlotte "Pauline" Goines, Gladys "Louise" Weedon, Helen Weedon, Dorothy Blackston; special nieces Betty Jean Bowie and Barbara Jordan who were always there for her.
The outpouring of love for Yvonne is a testament to the impact she had on others. She will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews who admired her vibrant spirit. Close friends Peggy Bowie and Peggy Hoy held an irreplaceable place in Yvonne's life.
To honor Yvonne's memory and celebrate her remarkable life, visitation will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 on October 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at the same location at 11:00am. Friends, family, and all those touched by Hazel's presence are invited to pay their respects and share in the memories of a life well-lived. Interment will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. A repass will be held after the burial ceremony at the Quinn Chapel Christian Life Center (QCCLC), 132 East 4th Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
As we bid farewell to Hazel Yvonne Thompson on this earthly plane, may we carry forward the lessons she taught us about celebrating life, embracing joy, and cherishing our loved ones. She will forever be remembered for her vitality, vivacity, and unwavering love. In the memories we hold dear, Yvonne's spirit lives on.
