Hazel Adelaide Howard Mills

Hazel Adelaide Howard Mills, 105, of Thurmont, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

Born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Adelaide Howard.

She was the wife of the late Norman A. Mills who died in 1995.  They had been married for 57 years.

Mrs. Mills graduated from Gaithersburg High School and Strayer Business College with honors.  She was employed at Pepco until the birth of her first child.  Then she was a stay at home mom and kept the books for her husband's heating and cooling company.  Later she worked at the National Bureau of Standards and NIH for 20 years.  In retirement she was known for her excellent needlework.  

She was a member of the Weller United Methodist Church in Thurmont, Maryland.

She is survived by her three children, Dr. Norman A. Mills of The Villages, FL., Carolyn Brubaker and Milton D. Mills of Thurmont, MD.; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Janet Downes of Frederick, MD and Frances Mills of Germantown, MD.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Francis and Upton Howard.

Private graveside services will be held with the family.
