Hazel Catherine (Long) Leatherman, 98, formerly of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Born on November 28, 1915 in Keedysville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Wellington and Flossie Mae (Clopper) Long. Her husband, Charles E. Leatherman, preceded her in death.
Hazel was employed in the cafeteria and also was the housekeeper for Dr. Butcher at Shepherd College. She retired at the age of 75.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg.
Hazel is survived by four sisters, Frances E. Reeder and husband George of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Patsy J. Slick, Nancy L. Guyer, and Irene E. Pound, all of Keedysville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn C. Sinnisen; and three brothers, John W. Long, Sr., William R. Long, and Howard F. Long.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Karen Erskine-Valentine will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
