Mr. Harry Walter Ward, Sr., 59, of Mt. Airy died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at his residence.
He was the husband of Arceli M. Penazo Sally Ward, his wife of 37 years.
Born on August 22, 1950, in Baltimore he was the son of the late Clarence Henry, Sr. and Anna Clara Wolfe Ward. He was a K-9 police officer for the Dept. of Defense. Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the Phillipines during the Vietnam War. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing golf and softball.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Harry Walter Ward, Jr. of Mt. Airy; a grandson, Thomas Harrison Ward of Mt. Airy; 2 brothers: Eugene C. Ward, Sr and wife Faye of Cambridge and DeWayne L. Ward, Sr. and wife Teresa of Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Ward as well as his K-9 partner of 9 years, Shadow.
Harry will also be remembered by his close friends: Todd Lewis, David Muller, Robert Ford, Dennis Fila, Fred O'Neal, Jerry Lowery, Robert Metz, Mike Turner ; and his yellow lab,Charlie.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, November 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd. in Mt. Airy.
Services: Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 5, with Robert Ford officiating.Interment will take place at Garrison Forest Veteran's Cemetery, Owings Mills.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
