Harry E. Latimer, Jr., 85, of Chestnut Street, Hagerstown, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Washington County Hospital.
Born February 11, 1924 in Winfield, NY, he was the son of the late Mary E. Sekac and Harry E. Latimer, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Francesca Eva Macchio Latimer in 1983.
A veteran of the Army Air Force's 860th Engineer Aviation Battalion, Harry served from 1943 to 1946 building air strips and hospitals and was a M-1 sharp shooter.
Harry was a life member of the VFW. He worked as a carpenter for many years. He was employed with the government (GSA) for 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed being out in his boat crabbing and fishing on the bay. He also enjoyed making wood crafts in his work shop. and Harry always enjoyed a good joke.
He is survived by his wife, June E. Smith Latimer; his children, Harry, III and wife, Francine, of Annapolis, Md., Angelo Latimer of Arnold, Md., Frances Carper and husband, Robert, of Penn Laird, Va., Rosemary Brockman and husband, Richard, of Frederick, Md. and Theresa Latimer King of Waldorf, Md.; grandchildren, Shannon Stoughton, Brande Morin, Robert Carper, Jr., Russell Latimer, Dustin Carper, Matthew King and Cara King; great-grandchildren, Dylan Oehlson, David Morin, Jr., Stephen Morin, Lexie Latimer, Russell Latimer, Jr., Campbell Rose Stoughton and Ryan Latimer; four step children; brothers, John Latimer of Ridgecrest, Ca. and Tom Latimer of Jacksonville, Fla.; and sisters, Mary Powers of Pekin, Ind. and Irene Lincoln of Clinton, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother, William Latimer and great-grandson, Ralph Morin.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery.
