Harry Harris, Sr.

Mr. Harry H. Harris, Sr., 81, of Myersville, Maryland, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Sunday evening, March 8, 2015, at his home.
Born on September 7, 1933, in Burgoo, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Wade and Connie (Hamrick) Harris.
Harry graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington D.C.   Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country as a Seabee during the Korean War.
Harry was a faithful and devoted charter member of Myersville Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Wolfsville Ruritan Club.
Harry worked 12 years as an Exhibit Specialist for the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of  History and Technology and 20 years as an Exhibit Specialist with the National Park Service Department of the Interior in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, being crafty and always working at Nancy’s never ending “Honey Do” list. He also took pride in feeding and watching his backyard birds.  Most importantly, Harry will be forever remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Tiller) Harris, whom he married on August 30, 1957; his daughter, Tammy Jensen of Smithsburg, Maryland; his two sons, Wade Harris and wife, Laura, of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Josh Harris and wife, Jackie, of State Line, Pennsylvania; his four grandchildren, Ashley Jensen, Tiffany Sanford, Carl Jensen IV, and Samuel Harris; and his two great-grandchildren, Amaris and Brexton Sanford.  He is also survived by his brother, George Hughes, Sr., of Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harry Hanson Harris, Jr.; his three brothers, Arlie Harris and Ray and Caleb Hughes, Jr; and his step-father, Caleb Hughes, Sr.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Myersville Baptist Church, 10200 Baltimore National Pike, Myersville, MD 21773.  His former pastor, Wayne Spear, will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Myersville.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.
