Harry M. Crowl, Jr., 90, of Keedysville, Maryland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born on March 12, 1921, in Gapland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Cora M. (Fink) Crowl. His wife, Doris L. (Glenn) Crowl, preceded him in death on July 21, 2007.
He was a lifetime member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren. Harry was also a fifty year member of the Masonic Order of A.F. and A.M., number 197 in Keedysville, the 14th and 32nd degree of Scottish Rite of Masonry, Tall Cedars of Lebanon number 95 in Hagerstown. Also, he was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive engineers, Baltimore and Ohio Veterans, National AARP, Brunswick Eagles number 1136 in Brunswick, Maryland and the Brunswick Moose number 1582.
Harry was the last surviving family member of his generation.
He lived life to the fullest and was most generous and giving with his time to church, family, and friends.
He is survived by his two nieces, Patsy Ensore and her husband Bill and Irene Clark; his three nephews, Vaughn and his wife Cindy Crowl, Robert and his wife Alice Oakes and Eugene and his wife Melva Fouch. In addition, Harry is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews; and his half-brother, William Crowl.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Mildred Crowl, Ruth Crowl, Anna Clark, Grace Oakes and Iola Jacobs; three brothers, Austin, Ralph and Ronald Crowl and three nieces, Elaine Whipp, Marilyn Rudolph and Wanda Lee Huffer.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Ocotber 11, 2011 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, in Brownsville, Maryland. The Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Final Resting Place Ceremonies will follow at Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Brownsville.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. For the convenience of friends and family, the funeral home will be open after 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
