Mrs. Harriet Deborah Grove, 82, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on January 13, 2017 at the home of Jeff A. and Deborah K. Bennett in Walkersville, MD.
She was the beloved wife of Victor Emory Grove, who passed away in 1984.
Born in Bedford, PA, Harriet was the daughter of the late Lewis Cecil Oliver and Dolly Frances Pearl Rose Oliver from Centerville PA.
Better known as “Deb” Grove among friends, she was active throughout her life and in the community. When not working, you would most likely find her on the golf course, bowling with friends, or spending time with her children. Mrs. Grove was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2883 in Cresaptown MD, a partner in the ladies’ golf league at Four Sisters in Rawlings, MD, and bowled in leagues at The Bowler in LaVale, MD and the White Oak lanes in Cumberland, MD. She had a deep affinity with the Pittsburg Steelers and a big fan of the Allegany Campers during the Alco – Fort Hill homecoming games. Mrs. Grove worked 32 years for the Cumberland Times news, retiring in September 2016. With such a kind heart, she always cared for those in need by giving to the USO, sending care packages to soldiers, unanimously giving gifts for those in need at work, and entire families for Christmas. Always concerned about her deaf granddaughter Mrs. Grove used sign-language up until the end to communicate with family.
Deb Grove was an exceptional loving mother to her three children, Debbie, Pam, and son Darren. She taught her children the meaning of life through love, compassion, fairness, and taking responsibility for our own actions. These values will live on through our children through you, our mother.
Mrs. Grove is survived by her daughter Deborah K. Bennett and son-in-law Jeff A. Bennett of Walkersville, MD, daughter Pamela D. McGregor of New Market, MD; her son Darren V. Grove and wife Noie Eguchi of Snohomish, WA; brothers Glenn Dermer and sister-in law Norma Dermer of Bedford Valley, PA, Lewis Oliver and sister-in law Lana Oliver of Hyndman, PA; sisters Dorothy Mazak of Altoona, PA and L. Burnadean Corley of Bedford, PA. Her grandchildren Dr. Carissa N. Bennett, Justin A. Bennett, John S. McGregor, Amanda L. McGregor, Collin M. McGregor, Maaya M. Grove, and Mia H. Grove. In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Grove was preceded in death by her twin brother Harry S. Oliver of Jeffersonville, IN and brother-in-law’s Andrew Mazak, of Altoona, PA and Robert Corley of Bedford, PA.
Mrs. Grove will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, MD.
Mrs. Grove wanted to have a private, family member’s only gathering at her home.
