Harold {Whitey} E. Powell

Mr. Harold Whitey E. Powell , died on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Northampton Manor Health Care. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Thelma Powell.

Born on June 8, 1925 in Bethel, MD, he was a son of the late Luther K. and Ellen L. Powell. Mr. Powell was a long time and active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Walkersville, where he served several terms on the church council and volunteered his professional experience for church maintenance.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Force having served during WW II as a airplane engine mechanic.

Whitey was a plumber / electrician by trade , employed with George Devilbis of Walkersville, he was then employed with NIH, retiring after many years of service.

He was a skilled outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

Surviving beside his wife are 2 daughters; Janet Elaine Powell of Oak Ridge, TN, Sandra Jean Bell and husband Lee of Middletown, 4 grandchildren; Michael Joyce,Jeremy Joyce,Katherine Bell and William Bell, 3 great-grandchildren;Charlee, Marya and James Joyce, 1 brother; Raymond T. Powell and wife Ruth of Mountaindale,1 niece and 2 nephews. Whitey will also be remembered by Charles Joyce.

He was preceded in death by a brother Mehrl Powell.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, on Friday, October 10th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Services: Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 19 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville. His pastor Rev. Mark Foucart will officiate.
Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
