Harold Hendrix Martz, Jr., 53, of Frederick, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital with his family by his side after a year long battle against colon cancer.
Harold was born on December 1, 1955 in Frederick, Maryland. Harold was a devoted family man and loyal friend. He was a kind, gentle soul and an all-around great man.
Harold was a 1973 graduate of Edgar High School in Edgar, Wisconsin. Harold farmed with his father in the Rocky Springs area for many years, and managed his family-owned and operated landscaping business, Harold H. Martz & Son, Inc., for 36 years.
He was a member of the Frederick Elks Club, Harley Owners Group, the Farm Bureau, and was a lifetime member of the Edgar Wisconsin Steam Show. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Middletown, Maryland, and attended the Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick.
Harold was an avid motorcycle rider and loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, the Washington Redskins, taking family trips out west, to Wisconsin, and Ocean City, Maryland. He enjoyed riding his Ultra-Classic and Road King motorcycles to The Wall in Washington D.C. for Memorial Day weekend.
Harold had a great sense of humor and his calm, down-to-earth demeanor endeared him to everyone. He will always be remembered for his kind ways.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and neighbor.
He is survived by his father, Harold (Pap) Martz, Sr. and his mother, Esther (Curly) Martz, of Frederick, Maryland. He was the beloved husband of Carla (Eicholtz) Martz. They were married for 30 years. Harold was the loving father of daughters Heidi Martz, Holly Martz, and Hilary Martz. He is survived by his sister Jenice (Martz) Nusbaum and husband Terry Nusbaum, brother-in-law Kenny Eicholtz and wife Melody Eicholtz, father-in-law Kenneth (Ike) Eicholtz and wife Grace (Boots) Eicholtz. He is survived by two aunts, Katherine Fisher and husband Russell, Lottie Showalter and husband Mel, and four nieces, Valerie Schmidt, Kara (Eicholtz) Mirch and husband Dave, Jessica Schmidt and boyfriend Brian Brotherton, Kasey (Eicholtz) Ramsburg and husband Chris, future son-in-law Andrew Pard, Heidi's boyfriend Chris Sweet, and Hilary's boyfriend Thomas Gumphrey. Harold will be greatly missed by everyone.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, November 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
Services: Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24, with Rev Kenneth Dunnington of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick officiating. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
