Harold Toms

Harold Arthur Toms, 83, of Yellow Springs, Frederick, was peacefully welcomed into the arms of Jesus Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, while surrounded by his immediate family, which is the way he wanted it.

Harold was born on May 22, 1927, in Myersville, as the son of Mehrl and Florence Toms. He was the loving husband to Mayetta L. "Dolly" Harris Toms and was married 58 years on Feb. 27, 2010. They were honored as husband and wife at Brook Hill United Methodist Church for being the oldest members.

He is survived by daughter, Robin and husband Mike of Myersville; son, Tony and wife Kelly of Thurmont; and four beautiful granddaughters, Amber, Alana, MaryAvery and Shelby Jo.

He was preceded in death by not only his parents, but his sister, Helen Hargett. Harold leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he cherished.

He is also survived by and was very fond of his "Aunt Bea" Toms.

Harold was active in the Korean War and served overseas and received many medals of honor. He remained in the reserves and up until recently he would go to the Korean War Veterans meetings for fellowship.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home on Opossumtown Pike. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Linda Warehime and the Rev. Ken Walker.

Graveside services will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick.

A reception will follow immediately at Brook Hill Church celebrating the life of Harold "PapPap's" Toms.
