Harold Thompson

Mr. Harold H. Thompson, 92, departed this life on Wednesday, February 25 2015, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mt. Airy. He was the husband of the late Mary Thompson who died in 2001.

Born on December 14, 1922 in Poolesville, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Sally Martha Hagy Thompson. Harold was a graduate of Poolesville High School where he was active in sports setting the state record in both the running high jump and 100 Yard Dash. He then went to the University of Maryland earning  B.S and Masters degrees. Harold worked in Dover, DE as a Zone Manager for International Harvester Co and then came to Mt. Airy High School where he taught agriculture. Mr. Thompson next moved on to the Carroll County Office of the Board of Education where he planned, supervised and opened  the vocational schools in the county. Harold retired in 1980, moving to Florida to live the good life. He lived on the water and loved to fish.

Surviving are a sister, Edith Sark of Little Elm, TX and a brother, James Thompson and wife Audrey of Kent Island; as well as his companion of 12 years, Dorothy Gosnell who was a loving care taker and a wonderful friend to the family.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Monday, March 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 3, with Rev. Bud Lusk officiating.

Interment will take place in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville
