Harold W. Schildt, Sr, 94, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life at his daughter, Elsie's, home on Friday, February 10, 2023 in his hometown of Frederick, Maryland.
Born on December 18, 1928, in Rocky Ridge, MD, he was the son of the late Atlee and Mary (Wolfe) Schildt. His wife, Elsie Mae Schildt, of 65 years, preceded him in death.
He was enlisted in the Unites States Army in March 1951. While in the army he served in the Korean War as a machinist and front-line medic and was then promoted to Sergeant 1st Class upon his discharge in December of 1952. In his earlier years, he worked at the brush factory in Frederick and the Shoe Factory in Thurmont. Later he took up carpentry with many construction companies until his retirement from Robert K. Wormald Construction. He had part time jobs with Ye Old Sprit Shop and Frederick Trading Company working well into his 70's before his final retirement.
He was an active member in local chapters such as Redman’s Club/ Eagles FOE #167 and Amvets, as well as VFW. He enjoyed playing cards in his earlier years.
Mr. Schildt was always on the move. He liked to collect aluminum cans and stripping wire in the back yard when he wasn’t working. In his earlier days, he always enjoyed time with his family. He loved to listen to country music and enjoyed watching tv shows such as tv westerns, Pawn Stars, and any Yankees baseball (being his favorite). He showed a great love for life and spent many hours reading Bible verses, especially after the death of his wife.
He is survived by one sister, Martha Y. Snyder and spouse, Ernest; his daughters and sons, Luann P. Schildt and spouse, Henry, Elsie V. Grimes and spouse, James, Lisa A. Snoots and spouse, Harvey, Howard A. Schildt-Houle, and spouse, Jeremy, and Harold W. Schildt, Jr , also surviving are seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Schildt was preceded in death by his twin brother, Howard Atlee Schildt and brother, Carroll L. Schildt.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
A celebration of Harold's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Tim May officiating. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
