Mr. Harold Gilbert Sanders, 75 of Thurmont, MD., died Wednesday, September 17, at his home. He was the husband of Nancy Wetzel Sanders, his wife of 49 years.
Born December 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Regis and Nadine Strayer Sanders.
Mr. Sanders was a member of St. Anthony Shrine Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his father's farm. He thought the world of Uncle Lee and Aunt Jo Eyler and enjoyed visiting them, relieving the past and talking about their grandchildren. Harold drove a bus for Rosensteel's Bus Lines and drove a milk truck for over 50 years for Zent Inc. and Clouse Trucking. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children: Patrick of Thurmont, Craig and wife Catherine of Thurmont, Edward of Thurmont, Brad and wife Susan of Hagerstown, Russell and wife Leslie of Thurmont, Marylou and husband Travis of Emmitsburg, Andrew and wife Tina of Waynesboro, PA, Joyce and husband Sam of Thurmont, Ralph and wife Jen of Fairfield, PA, 14 grandchildren: Ashley, Skyler, Zowie, DrewAn, Austin, Lane, Colt, Nathan, Liam, Olivia, Caroline, Levi, Lauryl and Mitch, his sisters Bonnie Rexroth and husband Richard of Emmitsburg, Kathleen Lawson and husband Michael of Thurmont, Marie Ohler and husband Sonny of Farnham, VA, brother Roland Sanders and wife Donna of Emmitsburg. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his son Steven Charles, parents Regis and Nadine Sanders, and brother Sterling Sanders.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD, Sunday, September 21, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Shrine, St. Anthony's Road, Emmitsburg , Monday, September 22, at 11:30 am. with Father Larry Donohoo as celebrant.
Interment St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be sons: Patrick, Craig, Edward, Brad, Russell, Andrew and Ralph, grandsons: Lane, Colt, Nathan, Austin, Liam and Levi, nephew Raymond Sanders and friends: Ronald Springer, Donald Springer, Patrick Kolb, Kevin Gebhart and Richard Knott.
