Harold Martin

November 25, 1921 — March 22, 2014

Harold Maynard Martin, 92, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on November 25, 1921, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Beulah I. Martin.  His wife of 53 years, Dorothy E. (Farmer) Martin, preceded him in death on April 16, 2003.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was aboard the U.S.S. Wasp when it was sunk by a Japanese torpedo during World War II.

Harold retired in 1984 from Eastalco in Frederick, Maryland, where he was employed as a production clerk.  He had previously been employed with Tri-State Electrical Supply Company in both Hagerstown and Frederick.

He attended Mt. Lena United Methodist Church in Boonsboro, and was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

Harold will be fondly remember for his love of pets and his passion as a train enthusiast.

He is survived by two nieces, Sondra D. Doyle and husband Harry, and Cheryl J. Heimbuch all of Boonsboro; two great nieces, Stephanne M. Saunders and husband John of Boonsboro, and Jennifer E. Heimbuch of Frederick; and two great nephews, Dustin L. Doyle and wife Teresa of Frederick, and Scott F. Doyle and wife Courtney of Martinsburg, West Virginia.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Ronald R. Kurtz will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, where military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
