Harold Hart

February 13, 1933 — October 15, 2016

Mr. Harold Douglas Hart, 83, of Frederick, MD passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Glade Valley Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Jane McMurtrie Hart for 58 years.

Born in Fairdale, PA on February 13, 1933 he was the son of the late Harold and Viola (Collins) Hart.  Doug was a graduate of Montrose High School.  Prior to college, he served his country for two years in the U.S. Army.  Doug was a graduate of Shippensburg College and received his master’s degree from Temple University.  Doug taught Business Education at Woodstown High School and served as Vice Principal at Paulsboro High School.  He returned to teaching at Triton High School and retired after 34 years in education.  Doug and Jane spent their summers on Lords Pond in Pennsylvania.  After retirement, they enjoyed the summer months in Hayesville, North Carolina and winters at Ariana Shores in Florida.  In 2014, Doug and Jane moved to Frederick, MD to live near their daughter.  Doug was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Scott (Nancy) Hart of Pilesgrove, NJ; Betsy (Jerry) Hopson of Union Bridge, MD; grandson Zachary Hopson; and siblings Jack (Cheryl) Hart of New Milford, PA and Chris (Ted) Cady of Kingsley, PA.  Doug was predeceased by his siblings, Yvonne, David and Patricia.

A memorial to celebrate Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion Gardner Warner Post 154, 14515 State Route 3001, Montrose, PA 18801. Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Standup2cancer.org.
