Harold Perry Green, age 95, of 10116 Sharpsburg Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of East Oak Ridge Drive near Funkstown, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at Somerford House Assisted Living near Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 30, 1912 in Beaver Creek, MD, he was a son of the late Perry Columbus and Cora Harrison Green.
Harold was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and Juniata College and began his teaching career during the Depression years. He did graduate work at the University of Maryland and received his Master's Degree from Western Maryland College (now McDaniels College).
Harold was a math and science teacher for 38 years in Washington County Schools. His career encompassed five schools: Woodland Way Junior High School, Hagerstown High School, Washington Junior High School, South Potomac Junior High School and E. Russell Hicks Middle School.
Harold combined his teaching career with ministerial duties at the Fahrney-Keedy Home Chapel. He was an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and served as a pastor, Sunday school teacher, moderator and lifetime church member. He was also a cancer survivor of 11 years.
Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years, Julia May Phillips Green, whom he married Oct. 26, 1940; one son, Harold Ronald Green and his wife, Suzanne Croll Green, of Clarksville, MD; one daughter-in-law, Judy Isner Green of Clear Spring, MD; one brother, Paul Cletus Green and wife Clara Graham Green, of Mercersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Michelle Green Kalendek, Tonya Green Oberhaus, Allyson Duker Green, Douglas Stuart Green, and Nicole Green Ritchey; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Russell Green; one grandson, Robert Russell Green Jr.; one great-grandson, Gavin Ritchey; three brothers, Russell Lauren Green, Arvine Austin Green and Willard Ivan Green; and one sister, Iona Green Suman.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Louis R. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
